This Returns & Refund Policy applies EXCLUSIVELY to purchases made through the San Diego Car Stereo website (sdcarstereo.com).

Purchased online? This policy applies to you. Continue reading below.

Purchased at a retail store location? This policy does NOT apply to you. In-store purchases are subject to separate return and refund terms. Please contact the store location where you made your purchase or speak with a store manager for in-store return policies.

OVERVIEW

At San Diego Car Stereo, customer satisfaction is our priority. If you are not completely satisfied with your online purchase, this Returns & Refund Policy explains your rights and how to proceed. By making a purchase from our website, you agree to the terms of this Returns & Refund Policy.

This policy should be read in conjunction with our Terms of Service and Shipping Policy.

ELIGIBILITY FOR RETURNS

To be eligible for a return, items must meet the following conditions:

Product Condition Requirements:

  • Items must be complete with all original packaging, manuals, and accessories
  • Items must be in new, unused, uninstalled condition
  • All protective seals, wraps, and films must be intact
  • No signs of installation attempts or installation damage
  • No physical damage, blown components, or fried equipment

Additional Requirements:

  • Items must be returned within 30 days of delivery date
  • Proof of purchase (order number, receipt, or order confirmation) must be provided
  • Original serial number must match the serial number shipped to you (see Serial Number Verification below)
  • Return authorization must be obtained before shipping anything back (see Unauthorized Returns section for consequences)

SERIAL NUMBER VERIFICATION

San Diego Car Stereo tracks all products by serial number. When you return an item, we verify that the serial number of the returned product matches the serial number of the product we shipped to you.

Returns will be denied if:

  • The returned product has a different serial number than what was shipped
  • The returned product is a different model or brand than what was ordered
  • The product has been swapped or substituted with another item

Attempting to return a product with a non-matching serial number may result in the item being returned to you at your expense and potential suspension of your ability to make future purchases.

UNDERSTANDING DEFECTS VS. DAMAGE

It's important to understand the difference between a manufacturing defect and damage caused by misuse or installation:

✓ Manufacturing Defects (Returnable):

  • Product does not power on when properly connected (and has not been overpowered)
  • Product malfunctions under normal use according to manufacturer specifications
  • Missing components or parts that should have been included from the factory
  • Product fails to perform its intended function despite proper installation and use

✗ NOT Manufacturing Defects (NOT Returnable):

  • Blown speakers - Voice coils damaged from overpowering or improper amplifier settings
  • Fried amplifiers - Burned circuits from incorrect wiring, overpowering, or electrical surges
  • Physical damage - Cracked cones, torn surrounds, dented components from mishandling
  • Installation damage - Cut wires, drilled holes, scratches, mounting residue
  • Abuse or misuse - Damage from dropping, water exposure, excessive volume, improper setup

If you're unsure whether your issue qualifies as a manufacturing defect, please contact us at support@sdcarstereo.com with photos and a detailed description before initiating a return.

NON-RETURNABLE ITEMS

The following items are final sale and cannot be returned or exchanged:

  • Damaged or blown equipment (speakers with blown cones, subwoofers with damaged voice coils, fried amplifiers, burned circuits, etc.)
  • Installed products (items that have been installed in a vehicle, even if later removed)
  • Items showing installation damage (drilled mounting holes, cut wires, scratches from tools, mounting tape residue, etc.)
  • Used, refurbished, or clearance items (marked as "as-is," "final sale," or "clearance")
  • Custom or personalized products
  • Items marked as final sale at the time of purchase
  • Products with obvious signs of use, wear, or damage
  • Items returned after the 60-day absolute cutoff period
  • Products with missing or non-matching serial numbers
  • Items missing original packaging, manuals, or accessories
  • Hazardous materials, flammable liquids, or gases

RETURN WINDOWS & FEES

San Diego Car Stereo offers a 30-day return window from the date of delivery. Returns are subject to the following terms:

Within 30 Days of Delivery:

  • New, Unopened Items: Full refund minus original shipping costs. Customer pays return shipping.
  • Opened but Complete and Like-New: Refund minus 10-15% restocking fee and original shipping costs. Customer pays return shipping.
  • Defective Items: Full refund including original shipping costs. We cover return shipping for defective products (see Defective Products section).

After 30 Days (Up to 60 Days Maximum):

  • Returns may be accepted on a case-by-case basis at our discretion
  • Higher restocking fees may apply (20-30%)
  • Customer responsible for all return shipping costs
  • No returns accepted for any reason after 60 days from delivery date

60-Day Absolute Cutoff:

We cannot accept any returns or exchanges after 60 days from the date of delivery, with no exceptions. Please inspect and test your items promptly upon receipt.

RETURN PROCESS - AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED

IMPORTANT: You must obtain return authorization before shipping anything back. See the Unauthorized Returns section below for consequences of returning items without authorization.

To initiate a return, please follow these steps:

Step 1: Contact Us for Authorization Email us at support@sdcarstereo.com with the following information:

  • Your order number
  • Your name and email address used for the purchase
  • Item(s) you wish to return
  • Reason for return
  • Photos of the product, packaging, serial number, and any issues (if applicable)

Step 2: Await Return Authorization Our customer service team will review your request and respond within 24-48 business hours with:

  • Return authorization confirmation (or denial if item is not eligible)
  • Return shipping address
  • Return instructions and requirements
  • Confirmation of whether restocking fees apply

Important: Do not ship items back without receiving return authorization. See Unauthorized Returns section below.

Step 3: Pack and Ship

  • Carefully pack the item in its original packaging with all accessories, manuals, and components
  • Include the serial number visible for inspection
  • Include a copy of your order confirmation or packing slip
  • Ship the item to the address provided using a trackable shipping method
  • Customer is responsible for return shipping costs (unless item is defective)
  • Keep your tracking number for reference

Step 4: Return Receipt and Inspection

  • Once we receive your return, we will inspect it within 1-2 business days
  • We will verify the product condition, completeness, and serial number match
  • You will be notified by email of the inspection results and refund status

Return Shipping Costs:

  • Customer Initiated Returns: Customer pays return shipping costs
  • Defective Items: We provide a prepaid return label at no cost to you
  • Wrong Item Shipped: We provide a prepaid return label at no cost to you

Shipping Recommendations:

  • Use a trackable shipping service (USPS, UPS, FedEx) with tracking number
  • Consider purchasing shipping insurance for high-value items
  • San Diego Car Stereo is not responsible for return shipments that are lost, stolen, or damaged in transit without tracking or insurance

UNAUTHORIZED RETURNS

If you ship a product back to San Diego Car Stereo without obtaining return authorization first, the following consequences apply:

  • Your return will be placed on hold and will NOT be processed until you contact us at support@sdcarstereo.com
  • You will be subject to a higher restocking fee (20-30% or more) at our discretion
  • If the product does not qualify for a return under our policy (damaged, blown, installed, non-returnable items), no refund will be issued
  • For non-returnable items sent back without authorization, you have two options:
    • Pay for return shipping to have the item shipped back to you
    • Forfeit the item - If you choose not to pay for return shipping, San Diego Car Stereo will retain the item with no refund issued

Why authorization is required:

  • To verify the item is eligible for return before you incur shipping costs
  • To ensure proper documentation and tracking
  • To provide you with correct return instructions and address
  • To set proper expectations regarding fees and refund amounts

REFUND PROCESSING

Once your return is received and inspected, we will notify you by email of the refund status.

If Approved:

  • Refunds will be processed within 48 hours of receiving and inspecting the returned item
  • Refunds are issued to your original payment method (credit card, debit card, or PayPal)
  • Original shipping costs are non-refundable unless the return is due to our error (wrong or defective item)
  • Restocking fees (if applicable) will be deducted from the refund amount
  • Return shipping costs are not refundable

Refund Timeline:

  • San Diego Car Stereo Processing: Up to 48 hours after receiving return
  • Bank/Credit Card Processing: 3-10 business days after we issue the refund (varies by financial institution)
  • Total Time: You should see the refund in your account within 5-12 business days from when we receive your return

If Denied:

If your return is denied due to:

  • Product condition not meeting return requirements (damage, blown equipment, installation damage)
  • Missing components or accessories
  • Non-matching serial numbers
  • Return initiated after the 60-day cutoff
  • Unauthorized return of non-returnable items

You will be notified via email with an explanation. You may choose to:

  • Pay for return shipping to have the item sent back to you
  • Forfeit the item (no refund will be issued)

PARTIAL REFUNDS

Partial refunds may be issued in the following situations:

  • Missing Parts or Accessories: Refund reduced by the cost of missing components (10-50% depending on what's missing)
  • Damaged or Used Product: Refund reduced by 20-50% depending on the extent of damage or use
  • Missing or Damaged Packaging: Refund reduced by 5-15% if original packaging is damaged or missing
  • Unauthorized Returns: Higher restocking fees (20-30% or more) may apply
  • Product Swapped or Wrong Serial Number: No refund issued; item returned to sender at sender's expense or forfeited

No Refund Issued (0%) When:

  • Damaged or blown equipment (blown speakers, fried amps, damaged circuits)
  • Items showing installation damage or installation attempts
  • Completely different item returned (serial number mismatch)
  • Severely damaged or destroyed product
  • Empty box or box filled with different items
  • Fraudulent return attempt
  • Non-returnable items returned without authorization (item may be forfeited)

San Diego Car Stereo reserves the right to determine the refund amount based on the condition of the returned item.

LATE OR MISSING REFUNDS

If you have not received your refund within the expected timeframe:

Step 1: Check your bank account or credit card statement again. Sometimes refunds take additional processing time.

Step 2: Contact your credit card company or bank. There may be a processing delay on their end before the refund is officially posted.

Step 3: If you've completed steps 1 and 2 and still have not received your refund, contact us at support@sdcarstereo.com with your order number and return tracking information.

We will verify on our end whether the refund was issued. If we have not yet processed your refund, we will do so immediately. If we have already issued the refund, the delay is with your financial institution, and you will need to follow up with them directly.

EXCHANGES

San Diego Car Stereo handles exchanges on a case-by-case basis. If you would like to exchange an item for a different product, please contact us at support@sdcarstereo.com with:

  • Your order number
  • The item you wish to return
  • The item you would like to receive instead

Exchange Process:

  1. We will review your exchange request and determine if an exchange is possible based on product availability and return eligibility
  2. If approved, we will provide return authorization and instructions for the original item
  3. You will be responsible for return shipping costs for the original item
  4. Once we receive and inspect the returned item, we will ship the replacement item
  5. If the new item costs more, you will be charged the difference
  6. If the new item costs less, we will refund the difference (minus any applicable fees)

Exchange Shipping Costs:

  • Customer pays return shipping for the original item
  • We cover outbound shipping for the replacement item to you
  • For exchanges due to our error (wrong or defective item), we cover both return and outbound shipping

Exchange Timing:

  • Exchanges must be requested within the 30-day return window
  • Exchanges are subject to product availability
  • If the desired product is not available, we will process a refund instead

DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS

If you receive a defective product, San Diego Car Stereo will provide a free exchange or full refund, including return shipping costs covered by us.

Defect Reporting Requirements:

To qualify for a defective product return, you must:

  1. Report the defect within 30 days of delivery
  2. Contact us at support@sdcarstereo.com with:
    • Your order number and contact information
    • Detailed description of the defect or malfunction
    • Photos and/or videos clearly showing the defect (this is required for authorization)
    • Any error messages or symptoms observed
  3. Obtain return authorization before shipping the item back

Defective Product Resolution:

Once we verify the defect based on your documentation:

  • Option 1: We will send a replacement product at no charge
  • Option 2: We will issue a full refund, including original shipping costs
  • Return Shipping: We will provide a prepaid return label for defective products at no cost to you

Important Notes:

  • Defects caused by misuse, improper installation, physical damage, or abuse are not covered
  • Blown speakers, fried amplifiers, or damaged equipment due to overpowering or incorrect installation are not considered manufacturing defects
  • Manufacturer warranties may also apply (see our Terms of Service for warranty information)
  • For manufacturer warranty claims, you may need to contact the manufacturer directly

DAMAGED OR INCORRECT ITEMS

Items Damaged in Transit:

If your item arrives damaged during shipping:

  1. Inspect your order immediately upon delivery
  2. Take photos of the damaged product and packaging
  3. Contact us within 48 hours at support@sdcarstereo.com with photos and your order number
  4. We will provide a prepaid return label and ship a replacement or issue a full refund

Wrong Item Shipped:

If San Diego Car Stereo ships the wrong item to you:

  1. Contact us immediately at support@sdcarstereo.com with your order number and photos of the incorrect item
  2. We will provide a prepaid return label at no cost to you
  3. We will ship the correct item to you immediately at no additional charge
  4. You will not be charged any fees for our error

San Diego Car Stereo takes full responsibility for shipping errors and will resolve them promptly at no cost to you.

REFUSED DELIVERIES

If you refuse delivery of a package without prior authorization from San Diego Car Stereo:

  • The package will be returned to our facility
  • You will be charged for the return shipping costs incurred by the carrier
  • A 10-15% restocking fee will be applied
  • Return shipping costs will be deducted from your refund
  • Refund will be processed once we receive the refused package (typically 7-14 business days)

If you wish to refuse a delivery, please contact us in advance at support@sdcarstereo.com so we can coordinate the return properly and minimize fees.

Refused deliveries are treated differently than standard returns:

  • Higher fees may apply
  • No opportunity to inspect the item before fees are assessed
  • Processing time may be longer

We strongly recommend contacting us before refusing any delivery to discuss your options.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS

San Diego Car Stereo only ships to addresses within the United States and does not accept international orders. All sales, shipments, and returns are limited to U.S. customers only. We do not process international returns.

CALIFORNIA CONSUMER RIGHTS

As a California-based business, San Diego Car Stereo complies with California consumer protection laws, including but not limited to:

California Civil Code Section 1723: Retailers must clearly disclose return policies. This policy is available on our website and applies to all online purchases.

California Civil Code Section 1750 et seq. (Consumer Legal Remedies Act): Consumers have the right to be free from unfair and deceptive business practices. San Diego Car Stereo does not engage in false advertising, misrepresentation of product quality, or deceptive return practices.

California Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act:

  • Manufacturer warranties apply to products as specified by the manufacturer
  • Refurbished and used products sold "as-is" are clearly marked
  • Consumers have the right to repair, replacement, or refund for defective products under warranty

California Automatic Renewal Law (AB 2863): For any subscription products or services, we provide clear disclosure of renewal terms and easy cancellation mechanisms.
